The Solomon Hirsh Memorial Nurse Education Fund

The American Physicians Fellowship for Medicine in Israel, with the help of the Solomon Hirsh Memorial Nurse Education Fund, has been privileged to sponsor over 60 Israeli nurses for short-term specialized training in leading medical centers in North America. The Solomon Hirsh Memorial Nurse Education Fund was established in 1988 through the generosity of former Board of Trustee member Dr. Richard Hirsh in memory of his father.

Essentials:

A stipend of up to $3000 is provided for the expenses of travel, housing, and daily allowance fro a stay of up to four weeks. Adjustments can be made for special circumstances.

The recipient must visit a leading medical center to observe and to learn the latest methodologies and technologies in their specific field of expertise in order to apply them upon return to Israel

Requirements:

  1. The candidate must be a registered nurse with at least 5 years of work experience, the most recent of which are in the field for which he/she proposes to study
  2. The candidate must be fluent in English
  3. The candidate us responsible for making the arrangements with the medical center in the US/Canada and for housing during the visit. APF does not locate programs for potential candidates.
Application Process for Hirsh Nursing Grant

Application for grants from the Hirsh Nursing Fund must be filled by the Head of Nursing, and not directly by the candidate. A hospital may file only one application during each year. The application should include the following items, in English only;:

  1. The applicant's CV
  2. A letter of recommendation from the candidate's Head of Nursing explain the importance of the proposed visit and how it will benefit the hospital in Israel
  3. Copies of letters detailing the nature of the proposed visit at the host hospital in the US/Canada, and the proposed housing arrangements during the program
  4. Confirmation from the candidate's hospital in Israel that it will continue to pay the candidates salary during the period of the learning visit
  5. One set of complete documents should be sent to the Hirsh Nursing Fund's representative in Israel: Ms. Ofra Neuman, 38 HaZayit Street, Ramat HaSharon, 47253, Israel
